Autodesk Official USA website
Since 1982, Autodesk has ushered in state-of-the-art 2D and 3D technologies that let customers visualize, simulate, and analyze the real-world performance of their ideas early in the design process. This gives our customers the flexibility to optimize and improve designs before actually executing them. Autodesk customers not only see, but experience, their designs before they are real, empowering them to save time and money, improve quality, and foster innovation. |

Autodesk Labs
Autodesk Labs is home to innovative new technologies - spanning everything from drivers and plug-ins to brand new applications. What you'll find here today are technologies created by the development teams at Autodesk, ideas that have been percolating in the minds of engineers trying to solve customer problems. Before Autodesk Labs, many of these technologies were put on a shelf and lost to the public forever. Others may have made it into fully released products without benefiting from user feedback in the early stages of development. |

John Walker - The Autodesk Files ( the History )
The Autodesk File chronicles the history of Autodesk, Inc. and its principal product, AutoCAD, through contemporary documents edited and annotated by Autodesk founder and former CEO John Walker. The book traces the company from the first glimmer of an idea in the minds of the founders, through start-up, initial public stock offering, and growth from a loose confederation of moonlighting individuals to a leader in the industry of computer aided design. The book is available in several different editions, suited for on- or off-line reading with various tools. Click on the titles of the section describing the edition you select to view it or download to your computer. [...] |

Tom Hudson - Klanky the Robot - analog computing
After leaving ANALOG in 1985, Tom started writing commercial graphics software for the Atari ST computer series. The first product was DEGAS ("Design & Entertainment Graphic Art System"), a painting program. Next he developed CAD-3D, a 3D graphics package, in conjunction with Antic Software's Gary Yost. Following this, he revisited DEGAS and created an upgraded version for the Mega ST computers called DEGAS Elite. It is believed that this is one of the first programs to use "plugin" technology for added functionality. From there he shifted gears back into the 3D graphics world and created CAD-3D 2.0 and a number of other Cyber Studio packages and plugins. [...] |

The ANTIC cyber graphics software
This Web site documents some moderately obscure computer graphics software history: a suite of animation products produced in the late 1980's for the Atari ST personal computer platform. Although the fact is not widely known, this Atari software, published by a defunct computer magazine called Antic, directly preceded and led to the Autodesk 3D Studio and Discreet 3ds max products used by thousands of people today. Classic Computer Magazine Archive
The Classic Computer Magazine Archive is a small crusade to make information from old computer magazines available on the Web.
The site was launched July 27, 1996 with the name "Digital Antic Project" and the goal of putting the full text of Antic magazine online. We met that goal on September 17, 2000, then turned our attention to Antic's sister magazine, STart. In July 2001, we finished putting the full text of STart magazine online, and began work on Creative Computing. We have also received permission to include articles from Compute!, Hi-Res, Antic Amiga Plus, Whiz Kids, II Computing, and other classic computer magazines. It was clear that the name "Digital Antic Project" was becoming increasingly inaccurate, so in July 2001, the name of the project was changed to Classic Computer Magazine Archive. [...] |

A Critical History of Computer Graphics and Animation
The study of the history of CGI (computer generated imagery) is an important part of our overall educational experience, not necessarily to build on the historical precedent, but to gain an understanding of the evolution of our discipline and to gain a respect for the key developments that have brought us to where we are. The discipline is so recent in its early developments and so rapidly changing that we are in fact living it, and it evolves as we speak. Yet we have been so busy in advancing the discipline that we have often neglected to accurately record this history. So we will decide to agree upon certain past events in order to begin to develop a definitive record of what has transpired in this evolutionary process. [...] |

HISTORY OF COMPUTER GRAPHICS
The advance in computer graphics was to come from one MIT student, Ivan Sutherland. In 1961 Sutherland created another computer drawing program called Sketchpad. Using a light pen, Sketchpad allowed one to draw simple shapes on the computer screen, save them and even recall them later. The light pen itself had a small photoelectric cell in its tip. This cell emitted an electronic pulse whenever it was placed in front of a computer screen and the screen's electron gun fired directly at it. By simply timing the electronic pulse with the current location of the electron gun, it was easy to pinpoint exactly where the pen was on the screen at any given moment. Once that was determined, the computer could then draw a cursor at that location. . [...] |

Lighting Academy
Lighting Academy is a lighting training programme promoted by the Fondazione Targetti and organized by Targetti Sankey SpA. Designing light is no longer a technical subtlety at the margins of an architectural project, but is an integral part of it that lends high added value. This need, by now well-rooted in our market, calls for professional, competitive responses and knowledge not only of lighting techniques but also understanding of the cultural, psychological, and perceptive aspects of lighting. Lighting is not only a technical problem and a necessity, but above all, a great opportunity that offers the designer greater freedom in expressing his creativity, and the client a precious support tool for achieving his business objectives. Super Computer
